Musical Bridges

Welcome Ms. Krystal

Krystal is thrilled to be in Music City after braving the snow and ice in Minnesota and Iowa for several years. She has loved meeting all of our clients and families, heaving a silent sigh of relief each time you remind her that winters here in Tennessee are much milder. Despite the fact that temperatures begin dropping, Krystal’s favorite season is Fall; she loves the cooler air and changing leaves - colors she never saw while growing up in sunny Singapore.

Krystal grew up being involved in many musical settings, and quickly discovered that music making was something that she was passionate about. It was not about the music itself, but really the people surrounding her music, and the impact it had on them. When the time was right she pursued music therapy as a career and has not looked back since.

As a kid, it was not unusual to hear Krystal improvising on the piano for hours. She called it her piano marathons - her one rule was that you could not play the same song twice unless it was played in a different style. In fact one of her favorite jobs was being a dance accompanist where she would create soundscapes or lush harmonies to take little dancers on a trip to space, or inspire professionals to dance. We hope you discover and enjoy her creativity, humor, depth and warmth that shines through her music making.

Before coming to us, Krystal worked in hospice and with older adults - spending time with amazing individuals, walking alongside families through the end of life journey. After an amazing season of bringing joy, comfort, and beauty to these families, Krystal knew it was time to challenge herself to grow in a different direction. Wanting to be more adept at using the different elements of music to drive change, she took Neurologic Music Therapy training and wanted the chance to use it with a different population that had different goals e.g. communication goals, speech, cognitive and social goals.

On the outset, working with a special needs population might appear very different from older adults. But it is the same compassion, adaptability, sense of humor, patience, and passion that she carries everywhere that we know will endear Krystal to her clients.

Outside of work Krystal is usually engaged in her hobbies reading, taking a walk, thinking deeply, laughing at herself or songwriting. Welcome Ms. Krystal!
