Memorial Day 2016

As Memorial Day is approaching, I want to say thank you to our service men and women both past, present, and future.  Your sacrifice will hopefully never be forgotten.  I always take the opportunity to do a Patriotic theme with the preschoolers on Memorial Day to honor our soldiers.

One song we are going to do this year is a re-write to When Johnny Comes Marching Home.  Have the children sit in a circle.  While you sing the song below, instruct the children that they will listen for their name to be called and follow directions.  This song works on listening skills, turn taking, following 1 and 2 step directions, and gross motor skills.

Sam will march around the circle, Hurrah!  Hurrah!

We’ll all give him a great big shout, Hurrah!  Hurrah!

Sam, clap your hands and stomp your feet (change directions for each child)

Clap your hands and stomp

Sam sit down so Jamie can have a turn now.  Jaime, it’s your turn now.

Repeat with other group members:

Jamie will march around the circle…
