Pass the Thankerchief

Since Thanksgiving will be here next week I thought I’d share a fun game that I play during my preschool music classes called Pass the Thankerchief.  It is a twist on the original hot potato game, passing a big handkerchief around the circle instead of a potato or ball.  At the end of the chant, the person holding the “thankerchief” says something they are thankful for.  Continue passing and singing the chant until everyone in the circle has had a turn to say what they are thankful for.

You’ll be amazed at what responses children will give.  Common ones are mom, dad, you (music teacher), brothers/sisters, and God.  I always encourage the children to think of  other ones as well such as food, shelter, safety, our health, beautiful weather, etc.

Thankerchief, thankerchief, round you go.  Where you stop nobody can know.

But when you stop someone must say what they are thankful for this day.
